The SA 8477/04P is a portable record changer made by Siera (Philips). It has a mono amplifier, and speaker built into the lid. It was produced from 1969 to 1971. It automatically changes records and can play at 16, 33, 45 or 78RPM.
At first we couldn’t find any info on this unit. Thanks to the helpful folks over at the Record Players Facebook group, we figured out it was actually a rebranded Philips 22GF043/01P.
About Siera
Siera was a subsidiary of Philips, based in Belgium. Units like these were likely rebranded to avoid trademark issues, but we’re not entirely sure of this. Other such Philips brands are Aristona, Erres and Radiola.
About the Siera SA 8477/04P “All transistor” record changer
The Siera SA 8477/04P is a portable unit with a built-in mono amplifier and speaker. It’s built into a “transistor-radio-style” chassis.
The record changing system is pretty ingenious. It determines the size of the next record in the stack by touching the tone-arm to the record. We think this needed a video.
